From wages to online profits.
It’s the story of my own journey. But there’s more to it.
My journey started at the tail end of 2010, early in December when I found my first mentor.
A week before, I had joined a financial organization as an associate. And during a regular training session, I stumbled upon Jim Rohn and his teachings.
Little that I know then that this unexpected encounter would play a major role in my life.
The late Jim Rohn had died 2 years before. But his teachings are timeless, remarkable and full of ageless wisdom.
His message was simple, down-to-earth but so powerful. I became a fan and started listening to one of his recordings almost every day.
The recording was entitled “Building Your Network Marketing Business”.
Three quotes from Jim Rohn have had an enormous impact in my life.
Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.
This was the first quote.
My formal education was making me a good living.
By trade, I am a civil engineer and hydrologist. I also hold a Master of Applied Sciences in hydrology and a Ph.D. in stochastic hydrology.
For most people, I had a very good income. Yet, I was not financially secure.
I had an aspiration to be, do and have more. But I was realizing that my job, although I liked it, was not going to fulfill my desire for more.
I always wanted to become an entrepreneur. I had this entrepreneurial spirit, but I was clueless about how and what to do to start a business.
When we don’t have an answer to the how we usually get stuck waiting for an answer. We stop searching for a way. We stop preparing and implementing a plan of action.
Because we are overwhelmed by the fear of failure.
Our schools, societies and competitive work environments are not proponents of learning by failing. Failing is not part of the game in these kinds of ecosystems.
Do you remember how you learned to walk?
Did you throw the towel and quit trying the first time you fell and hurt yourself a little bit?
For sure, you had some bruises and cried after another failed attempt. But you got up again, and again, and again until you finally walked.
A child is not afraid of failure and develops persistence.
But as we get into our adult life, we tend to lose these traits of character.
Deep inside, I knew my entrepreneurial aspiration couldn't stay hidden my entire life. But, I never imagined I would transition to another career path.
If you seek, you will find.
So, in December 2010, I started part-time in the financial industry. I joined a network marketing organization.
Besides being a civil engineer, I loved and still love personal finances.
I was hooked. Personal development and finances, and the prospect of helping people got me excited.
And network marketing teaches new concepts that are not taught in school.
This is how my entrepreneurial journey started.
I started part-time. I was reading books that I never heard of before.
I was listening to inspirational audios. And studying strategies to help families get ahead financially.
I started thinking and processing ideas in a different way.
My mindset started shifting. It was shifting from scarcity to abundance. From the traditional life model and career path to a world of possibilities.
You cannot make progress without making decisions.
This was the second quote from Jim Rohn that was so influential.
Many people stay stuck in life, just surfing by because they’ve never learned to make decisions. Indecisiveness is the enemy of progress.
Indecisiveness and comfort zone are pretty good friends.
Going beyond your comfort zone involves getting rid of the status quo. And stretching yourself to grow requires courage and decision making.
How far from your comfort zone are you willing to go?
Are you willing to break through the status quo and embrace change?
Successful people make decisions.
Napoleon Hill studied more than 500 successful people. He realized that they make decisions quickly and change them slowly if they ever change them.
In 2014, I decided to quit my job. I embraced my entrepreneurial journey all in.
I burned all the bridges. There was no possibility of retreat. I had no other option than to succeed.
I got involved in email and affiliate marketing.
In 2015, I started blogging and launched 2 blogs. Doing business online became a true passion.
Yet, I needed to hone my marketing skills to transition from wages to online profits.
It was at this stage in my journey that this third quote from Jim Rohn made sense.
Profits are better than wages. Wages make you a living; profits make you a fortune.
To create profits online, it’s imperative to become a better marketer.
Numbers don’t lie. The 80/20 rule applies also online.
A small percentage of internet and affiliate marketers makes most of the money earned online.
Most internet marketers are rather salesmen than marketers. They are pitching their products or affiliate links and spamming people.
The attraction marketing formula is often overlooked. This is why 99% of affiliate marketers and online businesses struggle and fail.
Working with a coach or a mentor is a sure-fire way to avoid spending years learning how to manage a business and how to market effectively.
Not to mention, what to do step-by-step to monetize and scale a business.
A coach or a mentor holds you accountable which is key to achieving your goals.
Free is expensive. And relying only on free training will keep you stuck in the lower tail end of the 80/20 rule among those that do a lot for dismal results.
